Toastmasters Functionaries and Officers
Functionaries:
The following functionaries help the Toastmasters meeting run smoothly.
Each role is filled by a different person each meeting.
- Inspiration.
This member offers a few words of
wisdom and inspiration at the opening of a meeting.
- Toastmaster.
The Toastmaster has the key role
in any meeting. The primary duty of the Toastmaster is to insure a well-run
meeting and smooth transitions between program participants. The Toastmaster
chooses a theme, sets the agenda, publishes same, and ensures that everyone
is available to meet their speaking assignments.
- Grammarian / Ah Counter.
The Grammarian / Ah
Counter watches our use of the English language, and catches the use of filler
words such as "Ah" and "and".
- Timer
The Timer times Table Topics and Formal
Speeches to make sure that each runs in the allotted time.
- Table Topics Master.
The Table Topics Master
asks thought provoking questions on a topic of general interest. Then calls
upon members to deliver a one to two minute speech answering the question.
- General Evaluator
The General Evaluator
presides over the evaluations of the formal speeches, and offers an
evaluation of the entire meeting as a whole.
- Awardsmaster.
The Awardsmaster counts
votes for the best speakers in each program segment, and awards ribbons
to the winners at the end of the meeting.
Officers:
A brief explanation of the Officer roles in our Toastmasters Club.
The term of office is 6 months.
- President
The President
presides over all the club meetings.
- Vice President, Education
The Vice President, Education ensures that members proceed towards their
public speaking goals, and ensures that speaking roles are filled at every
meeting.
- Vice President, Membership
The Vice President, Membership helps bring new members into the club,
and orients new members who sign up.
- Vice President, Marketing
The Vice President, Marketing spreads the word about our club, and lets other
people know about the learning opportunity we present.
- Secretary
The
Secretary keeps all the correspondence and records of the club. The secretary
files copies of meeting agendas, as proposed, and actual, plus minutes of
any club business discussed at a club meeting.
- Treasurer
The
Treasurer plans a budget for the club, keeps club financial records and
takes care of the club bank account.
- Sergeant at Arms
The
Sergeant at Arms ensures a pleasant environment for our club's meetings, by
arranging a meeting room, setting it up beforehand, and greeting people as they
enter. The Sergeant at Arms also chairs the Social and Reception committee.
The names "Toastmasters International", "Toastmasters", and the Toastmasters International emblem are trademarks protected in the United States, Canada, and other countries where Toastmasters Clubs exist. Unauthorized use is strictly prohibited.
